Painting for 'Seventh Sanctum

Description

Here is my entry for the Seventh Sanctum comp "Evil and Company". I entered into one of them a long time ago and they are a heap of fun. The idea is to take the results of two generators and draw the results, in this case the "The Evil Name Generator" and then the minions that come from the "Dark Minion Generator". My results were:

Evil Name - Metalshade The Worm-ridden
Dark Minions - Toad Mass

I think I got everything in there, the metal aspect, the worms, the mass of toads (although I wish the worms had of stood out a bit more).

This is my first proper result of any sort of painting, as I've been trying and failing miserably all week with scenes of beaches or whatever (not that it looked anything like a beach by the time I finished with it). It wasn't until I started to figure out what I was doing wrong (everything has to be a gradient into something else, even a tiny one, to look 3D) that everything started to click and decided to start on this piece. By the end of this painting I really felt like I was starting to get the hang of it, so I think the crown on his head, which I did last, turned out to be the best part

I can't wait until I get to paint another piece as I feel like I’ve finally made one successful step forward with painting. Although I still suck at lighting =(

edit - As per the suggestion by =Bloodhia that the picture is a little too dark, I've uploaded an alternate version where I was playing with the lights a bit. I haven’t so much made the picture brighter as I have turned the colors up, which now looking back at the old picture had an almost grey wash to it. Anywho, I hope this ones a little bit easier to see =D (Original version: [link])

I hope people do a full view so they can see the detail. The drawing is well done, and I like the colouring.
